Wascally Wee Willy Exhibition in Edwardsville

You are cordially invited!

Grand Opening: Friday, February 9, 2018 6:00 - 8:00 pm

6165 Center Grove Road, Edwardsville IL

From February 9 - March 16, I will be exhibiting my comic book inspired designs on canvases, tiles and prints at the Edwardsville Arts Center (EAC) in a solo show entitled, The Delinquent Comic Art of "Wascally Wee Willy" Harroff. I am also pleased to report that we received a significant grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency to support the project that includes an exhibition catalog. Now with the state's assistance, we will be able to continue the show as a traveling exhibition for interested art centers, schools, comicons and libraries across the state of Illinois and beyond.

About Me:
I love art. I love comic books. Those two passions have defined my life experiences and career as a successful book artist for thirty years, working primarily in digital formats for the last two decades.

My professional life of putting words and pictures together has taken me on adventures around the world. I was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Regional Fellowship in 1991. My work was also included in the Smithsonian Institution’s Visual Artists Fellowship Archive at the National Museum of American Art. I have studied and taught with some of the best book artists including Ed Hutchins, Richard Minsky, Gary Frost, Robert Smith, Susan King, Audrey Niffenegger, Julie Chen and Hedi Kyle.

As co-founder of the (r)Evolutionary (e)Books Press, I keynoted at the Guadalajara Book Fair and CAMEX, the American College Bookstore Association’s Expo. In addition, I received the Frank B. Sessa Scholarship, the Governor’s International Exchange Program Grant (along with other Illinois Arts Council and NEA awards), Art Matters and Women’s Studio Workshop grants, a Ragdale Foundation residency and top honors in several international art competitions. In 2013, three of my comic books were featured at the Barcelona Book Fair.

I hold degrees with Highest Distinction from Purdue University, Indiana University and the Internationale Sommerakademie fur Bildende Kunst in Austria. My books are included the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Experimental Arts Foundation, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the New York Public Library, among many others. I have held faculty positions at Southern Illinois, Oklahoma State and McKendree Universities.
If you're an artist/art student, don't forget to add a brief artist's statement and photos of three of your art works to either your "comment wall" or "text box." This is your basic St. Louis Art Directory information. Later you may add images, videos, post a blog, and much more.
