Artist
If an artist/art student, my primary medium or mixed media is:
Painting
About Me:
My artwork is inspired from India where I was born and spent my growing years. The technique I have used comes from the northwestern part of India and is called “Warli.” In this technique, simple shapes are used to depict all forms of nature. Plants, animals, landscape and people are all painted using bright white paint against a terracotta background.
I love the simplistic form and use it in my own creative contemporary style. The backgrounds are either warm or cool colors depending on the time of day and have a rich texture to represent earth. I execute an abstract art form using very free and bold brushwork for the background. The method of painting of the foreground is the complete opposite. I make a detailed illustration of a story using very fine brushes and controlled strokes. The symbols and shapes in my art tell very simple stories.
This contrast of abstract and real, simple and complex, nature and man are a recurring pattern in my art.
