About Me:
Painting on silk is my main medium, although I love making jewelry and have a BFA in Metalsmithing from SIUE as well as a BFA in Textiles & minor in Ceramics, I wanted to do it all! I love photography which is a major source for my silkpainting inspiration - black & white photos of St. Louis architecture are my base. My MFA in Textiles from SIUE was completed in 1992 and I've been painting on silk since then. I work part time as a studio assistant for other artists. I am married, have a studio at home and lots of kitties outside to love on. I live on 10 acres and am inspired by the creation of everything and the Creator who put the ability to create in me!

If you're an artist/art student, don't forget to add a brief artist's statement and photos of three of your art works to either your "comment wall" or "text box." This is your basic St. Louis Art Directory information. Later you may add images, videos, post a blog, and much more.
I find myself intrigued and captivated by mere elements of mortar and glass as their end results become architectural structures...tall and mirrored glass buildings, specifically. The large windowed forms transfers reflections of ordinary buildings into flowing illusions of mutated and curiously surreal shapes. The familiar inanimate world around me teeters on a balance of animate and unexpected imagery between what is perceived as real and what is not seen. My interest is pushing these images into that place between truth and fiction, to connect the human experience and animated planes of existence into the viewer’s subconscious mind. The viewer’s perception of these representational buildings I paint, hopefully stirs an interactive dialogue of duality’s, opposites and mixed messages when peering from this world into mine. In the end, my concerns are involving the viewer with components of mystery and ambiguity, conventional/bizarre, humorous/ominous, good/evil are the parallels I create with bold color in, on, and around my interpretations of these fantasy-like building shapes. Painting this subject matter of mortar and glass onto soft and delicate silk is a duality in and of itself, an irony.

Thanks so much for the comments. Your silk work is fabulous! I see you are on Etsy. Do you feel being on there has brought you a lot of sales or networking? I'm debating getting on.
