About Me:
The Original SLAM in St. Louis, is looking for a 15 great poets, every third Wednesday of the month. Sign up is at 7, the show starts at 7:30pm with a CASH prize for the best poet of the night, decided by five random judges. There is a $5 cover charge. Poetry Slam = Poetry Competition.

The St. Louis Poetry Slam was started in 1989 when Marc Smith transplanted it from Chicago to the Venice Cafe, hosted by Bob Putnam. It remained there for 2+ years and moved to the Wabash Triangle Cafe, once it had outgrown the venues limitations. When the Wabash tragically burned down in 1994 it lay fallow for 3 years. In 1997 Kevin McCameron, Hari Sky Campbell, Peter Sparks and David Noble rebooted the Slam on a dare from Michael O'Brian at Blueberry Hill. It has been ongoing since in numerous venues such as- Llywellyn's, The Red Sea, Dressell's, Rhythm & Brews, The Focal Point, etc.
