About Me:
Jeff Hursey

I am a working artist just outside of St. Louis. In 2009, I earned a bachelors degree in Art Education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. After graduating, I worked briefly as an art instructor, and I am currently employed with a professional art handling company. While maintaining a day job, I devote a great amount of energy towards creating art of my own.

Many of the ideas behind my work were conceived in the summer 2008 while studying photography abroad in Ireland. Throughout the trip, I began noticing things I would normally overlook. I found that life is more rewarding when we slow down, stop worrying about the next step, and experience that particular moment which will never again be obtainable. I realized beautiful things happen right before our eyes that we often never see.

My imagery is heavily influenced by artists including but not limited to Robert Rauschenberg, Mark Bradford, Chuck Close, Gerhard Richter, William Kentridge, Jean Michel Basquiat, and Raymond Hains. I explore many forms of art, however, I work mostly two dimensionally in painting, drawing, photography and collage.

Thank you for your interest!
