"Thank you, Mark! I really admire your work. It makes me laugh and I appreciate all of the political overtones and the caricatures of us ridiculous humans. The painting in the faculty show with your self portrait was dead on!  Can't believe…"

About Me:
I grew up in south St Louis city, but when I was about 20, my father moved to a rural area with lots of acreage and began to raise cattle. My visits revealed a stark contrast in lifestyle and aesthetic appeal that was fascinating to me, but even more captivating were the cows themselves. These sentient, massive creatures have such a peaceful presence, completely content in just being themselves, nurturing their young, conserving their energy, thriving on grass, grains and spring water. They also hold a respectable amount of raw power. They and the rolling hills of pasture and shadowy wooded areas they inhabit proved to be the focus of my interest and camera lens for years to come.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I busied myself with being a young mom, and expressed my flair for design in painting my children’s rooms in different themes and motifs. I began a small business of faux finishing and mural painting, sometimes dictated by the client’s vision, with the occasional freedom to paint whatever I wanted. When I began to attend the community college to enhance my painting skills, it was no wonder that my mind went right back to the cows, but I also enjoy painting the human figure.
Although I enjoy the use of expressive color, I’m also in love with form. The mass and bulk, angles, curves and shadows cast by the body’s landscape provide an endless array of compositions in my mind. With synthesis of form and composition, along with contrasting textures and color I intend to create dynamism on the canvas. What I attempt to reveal and share in my drawings and paintings are areas of brilliant light and deep shadow, hard edges and soft contours, which mirror the weight and tensions of the material world and the mystery of what lies beneath.
I am now persuing a BFA at Maryville University beginning in the fall of 2012 where I will concentrate on oil painting.
