Are there any agents for photographers or artist in St. louis?

It's almost impossible to find an agent for your photography or art work. If you were well-known and had quite a body of work you maybe could get an art gallery to represent you.

What you can do is submit your work for exhibition at art shows. Keep an eye on "Call for artists" in MySLART.org forums. Art Coop had a call for artists for its upcoming MySOL art show listed here. Did you submit to that? Probably not. And the deadline for entries has passed.

You're welcome to join the Art Coop group here at MySLART.org. We're a nonprofit artists cooperative that produces a group art show every month.

Nothing is going to just fall in your lap. You're going to have to stay alert and work hard if you expect to ever get any of your work shown anywhere. Welcome to the world of "struggling artists." And good luck.

I must say the reply from art coop could have been delivered in a more diplomatic way....but the point is absolutely correct. Very few artists nowadays are so uniquely talented that they are going to be snatched up by any agent.....unfortunately, especially in the St. Louis area. While there are a lot of wonderful artists, and many galleries, we are by no means a great art mecca in this country. Artists who have a name for themselves were not found, they had to do a lot of hard work to accomplish that name.

It is actually a joke between me and several of my friends from college. There was an (old) friend of mine, who while talented, was lazy as well. She wanted everything handed to her, and did not want to try and work for a job in our field. Now while the rest of us have good leads, or are already employed, she is still sitting around waiting for someone to "discover her excellence"

Kirsten,

The only agency I found in St. Louis was Teenuh Foster (www.fosterreps.com/). I don't know anyone who has used their services though, so I can't say if they are worth your time/money.

Have you tried any of the following? The info is more national/international, but that may be where to look if you can't find anything in St. Louis.

You might try Myartspace (www.myartspace.com) They are an international networking website for artists, museums, galleries, etc. Someone there might be a little more helpful. Basic membership is free.
(Sorry the hyperlink function isn't working)

Best of luck.
