Exhibit I: “Before I Sleep” by Eleanor D. W. Ruder
Eleanor’s passions for the Chinese Sumi-e ink technique and for the poetry of Robert Frost have combined to produce an impressive and memorable collection reflecting her delicate artistic touch as well as her deep sensibility. Eleanor--who in addition to being the owner of Componere Gallery is a former art teacher and longtime artist--discovered in the Sumi-e technique both a medium that challenges her and an expressive form that promotes an intense feeling of personal contentment. She religiously devotes four evenings each week to deftly applying strokes of ink on textured Chinese rice paper using soft, round, pointed brushes. “Contentment comes,” she says, “as internal images appear on the cloud-like surface, imploring to be clarified.”
Exhibit II: “Survivors” by Omer Huremovic
This collection of wire trees was born from artist Omer Huremovic’s desire to create sensual and delicate yet strong and dynamic curves that mirror nature’s bountiful manifestations. All who marvel at Huremovic’s ability to capture the simple, basic beauty of these “survivors” using twisted, monochromatic wire will be struck by the powerful impact of this collection. Omer’s experiences in his war-torn homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina triggered his desire to create and give shape to the wonders of nature. “My fascination with trees,” he says, “became the overriding inspiration and key component in my visual vocabulary.” Happily, he is sharing his visual vocabulary through an ongoing and prolific body of work that pays well-deserved homage to nature’s marvelous creation.
Opening reception Sunday, July 1, 2pm to 4pm.
